In early 2009, Barry retired from the City of Penticton and immediately began a relationship as an associate with PERC. During his 38 plus years with the District of Maple Ridge and the City of Penticton, he progressed from a Recreation Coordinator position to a Director with responsibility for the operational and capital programs of several departments including recreation, parks, civic facilities, and the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Barry has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Washington University. He is a Past President of the BC Recreation and Parks Association, and a past Board member of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association. In addition, he continues to volunteer locally as an executive member of his Rotary Club, on the organizing committee for the 2010 Ladies Scotties Provincial Curling Playdowns, and with Emergency Social Services.
