Don initiated his own consulting practice in 2003, following a career spanning 30 years in the parks, recreation and cultural field, and has worked on a number of consulting assignments with PERC in the past five years. Prior to that, he served as the General Manager of the Surrey Parks, Recreation and Culture Department, as Director of Parks and Recreation for the District of Saanich, Manager of Recreation with the City of Regina, and as a professor with the University of Manitoba where he developed and led the Bachelor of Recreation Studies degree program.

Don has a PhD in Parks and Recreation Management from the University of Oregon, and has served as the President of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, Chair of Active Living Canada, and Chair of the Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability. He is currently a member of the Recreation Commission at the Panorama Leisure Centre in Sidney, and a Board member with Active Healthy Kids Canada and the Lifestyle Information Network.
